Contorted filbert trees are the new big trend!
This newcomer to the industry is sure to make a big splash in residential and commercial landscaping: our gorgeous Red Dragon contorted filbert variety.
Petite of stature and huge in character, this contorted filbert boasts a blaze of burgundy foliage through the growing season. But that’s hardly the best part! It grows with branches like a curly willow, naturally producing a unique bonsai-esque shape. Effortlessly charming, it needs minimal pruning to reduce sucker growth at its base.
Red Dragon contorted filbert cultivar is a product of Oregon State University Hazelnut Breeding Program. It’s specifically bred with the Gasaway gene for resistance to Eastern Filbert Blight – protecting your landscaping investment.
Red Dragon grows best in zones 4 & 5, with well-drained soil and plenty of light. It matures to 10-12 feet tall, with a 6-8 foot spread, unless trained otherwise. With proper pollinization, it will produce a dainty crop of beautiful and delicious red-hulled hazelnuts in the autumn.
